Navy Blue Drexel Dresser Makeover

Monday, May 11, 2020

Hi Friends!  I'm going to be honest right now, I have been DREADING writing blog posts lately.  I just have so many pieces that need posts written and I can't seem to keep up.

Plus, the weather is getting nicer so i'm getting to work on pieces outside finally, and I want to take full advantage of it!  I've been pumping out pieces so fast recently and I am usually working all day, so when it comes to doing computer work I and just not feeling it haha.

But, don't worry.  I am not going anywhere and blog posts and makeovers with still be coming out every week!  I may stop holding myself to such a strict Tuesday and Friday schedule for uploads and just upload whenever I have a chance :)

ANYWAY... Today's post is going to be all about how I updated this old Drexel tallboy and gave it a pretty navy and hold makeover!

(Some of the paint used in this post was so kindly sent to me by the team over at Country Chic Paint)

I picked up this piece and it was in pretty good shape as far as the bones go.  Cosmetics were a different story.  The finish wasn't great and there were some knicks and dings here and there, but I have definitely seen worse....oh way worse.

So, I removed all of the hardware, cleaned the piece up, used my bondo to fill the old holes on the two bottom drawers and sanded everything smooth.

I removed all of the dust and applied some topcoat just to the areas I put bondo so the paint wouldn't absorb into that differently and show where I filled!  I also drilled my new hardware holes because I wanted to do simple knobs all the way down the piece :)

Next I mixed up my paint.  I used 16 oz of Country Chic Paint's Midnight Sky mixed with about 8 oz of Liquorice to get this gorgeous deep almost dusty navy!

I sprayed my piece using my Homeright Paint sprayer and did 2 coats.  After all of the paint was completely dry I sprayed my topcoat on doing 3 coats!

I added my gorgeous champagne gold knobs from D.Lawless Hardware and this pretty thing was done!

I love how this piece got a masculine look while still keeping things soft and modern with the pretty hardware!
